.The course mainly focuses on three main parts and these are: introduction to materials engineering, characteristics of materials used in civil and construction engineering, and laboratory methods for the evaluation of materials. It presents the characteristics of the primary material types used in civil and construction engineering such as steel, aluminum, concrete, asphalt, wood/timber, and composites. Their applications in construction projects, advantages and disadvantages will be studied.  Finally, it includes an overview of various test procedures used with each material based on standards organizations such as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
