An introduction to design, analysis, construction and maintenance of short and medium-span bridge structures with specific examples of steel bridges. Topics covered include the history and aesthetics of various types of bridges, conceptual design, Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) and Allowable Strength Design (ASD) philosophies, live and dead loads, moving load and combinations of loads, limit states, influence line, line beam analysis.

This course covers the fundamental concepts and principles of mechanics, vectors, and force systems.  Topics include concepts of free body diagram; principles of equilibrium of particles and rigid bodies in two and three dimensions; analysis of structures: trusses, frames, and machines; shear and bending moment in beams, center of gravity; centroids; and area moment of inertia.

This course covers the following: Health and Safety documentations, Risk Assessment Method Statement (RAMS), Sustainability and Environment, Work Ethic, Problem definition, Effective team work, Effective team management, Concept generateon and reverse engineering, 3D modeling, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Environment (DFE). SolidWorks software is introduced in this course through practice sessions on creating parts and 2D modelling, creating extruded boss, extruded base, extruded cuts and 3D modelling, advanced surfacing and SolidWorks 3D assembly.

This course provides an understanding of fundamental concepts in the analysis and design of steel structural members and systems according to the Steel Construction Manual. Topics include tension members, compression members, steel building frames, continuous structures, beams, bolted connection and welded connection.

The course includes measurement of distances and angles, theory of errors, study of leveling, traversing, road surveying, earth work computation, and boundary surveys. It also involves in practicing the usage of tapes, levels, theodolites, total stations, and PC-based methodologies.

This course focuses on the civil engineering operation, design, and construction of transportation systems. Particular areas of interest include transportation planning, road vehicle performance, horizontal and vertical alignments, geometric highway design; traffic operation, highway intersections, flow, and control, traffic safety, highway capacity analysis, cost benefit analysis and the design and management of pavement systems.
