This course is an introduction to the world of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences that
provides the student with the knowledge and skills required to perform various pharmaceutical
calculations necessary to prepare and dispense medications. This course includes two main
parts. Firstly, introduce the students to the medical and pharmaceutical abbreviations required
to interpret prescriptions and medication orders. Secondly, familiarize the student with the
computation and calculation skills required for dosages and compounding practices. This semester topics include electrolytes solutions, isotonic and buffer solutions, and selected calculations in pharmacy care.

Skill Level: Beginner

This course offers the fundamentals of human physiology. The topics include body organization, homeostasis, action potential, signal transduction, integumentary, skeletal, muscular, movement, nervous systems, consciousness, and special senses. The practical sessions include microscopic study, physiologic experiments, electrocardiogram, electroencephalogram, respiration, spirometry, blood film and cross match, blood pressure measurements, computer simulations, and multimedia presentations.

Skill Level: Beginner

The course introduces the students to introductory chemistry concepts, including atomic structure; the periodic table; electronic distribution of the atoms; the mole concept; stoichiometric calculations; solutions; acids and bases; buffers, chemical bonding, molecular structures, and intermolecular interactions and the properties of liquids and solids. This course also includes practical experiments, including volumetric and gravimetric assays, normality, molarity, formality, and molality measurements, acid-base and redox titrations, pH calculations and buffer solutions’ preparations and classifications, and chromatographic assays. There is a required weekly lab for the course, in addition to lectures.
