The course introduces the students to introductory chemistry concepts, including atomic structure; the periodic table; electronic distribution of the atoms; the mole concept; stoichiometric calculations; solutions; acids and bases; buffers, chemical bonding, molecular structures, and intermolecular interactions and the properties of liquids and solids. This course also includes practical experiments, including volumetric and gravimetric assays, normality, molarity, formality, and molality measurements, acid-base and redox titrations, pH calculations and buffer solutions’ preparations and classifications, and chromatographic assays. There is a required weekly lab for the course, in addition to lectures.
