This course introduces students to professional and technical documents with an emphasis on improving their abilities to read, analyze, and prepare technical reports used in the workplace. Students will use real-life examples of technical writing—an array of genres from lab reports to professional technical reviews as models. Students will produce documents in these genres for in-class workshopping by their peers over the course of the semester, and generate a major technical report that includes documents that demonstrate their mastery of the principles of technical writing in a variety of genres using research and documentation. All work in this course emphasizes the precise use of language and graphics to communicate complex information efficiently and ethically.
