Diplomacy is one of the oldest and most essential tools of international relations, shaping the way states, organizations, and even non-state actors communicate, negotiate, and manage conflicts. This course provides an introduction to the theory and practice of diplomacy from its historical origins to its modern applications in a globalized world. Students will explore different forms of diplomacy, including bilateral, multilateral, public, economic, digital, and crisis diplomacy, as well as sub-state practices such as paradiplomacy. Through case studies, readings, discussions, and practical exercises, students will gain an understanding of diplomatic institutions, negotiation and mediation processes, and the role of diplomacy in addressing contemporary global challenges. Emphasis is placed on developing analytical, research, and communication skills relevant to the field of international relations.
