This seminar offers students a selective introduction to the aesthetic, intellectual, social, and cultural developments of world civilization since 1450 through a series of in-depth encounters with primary texts. The course will include readings from a variety of humanistic disciplines with an emphasis on global reach and cross-cultural comparison. Students will develop skills in critical reading and will write short papers. This course is part of the core program.
