PHYS 244 is the lecture component of an integrated lecture-laboratory course on introductory physics for the life sciences. This course is a one-semester Algebra-based introduction to Physics. The topics covered will be particularly beneficial to students of Biological or Health Sciences. However, the course is open to anyone who fulfils the pre-requisites. Topics covered focus on concepts of importance for the understanding of living systems. These include Solids and Fluids, Vibrations, Waves and Sound, Electromagnetic Waves and Optics, aspects of Thermal Physics, Quantum and Nuclear Physics. This course is not intended nor should it qualify for credit for Engineering majors, who should instead take the Calculus-based sequence PHYS 232 and PHYS 233.
