Students will use their prior knowledge of engineering drawing principles to produce professional civil engineering drawings using 2D CAD, 3D modeling, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools. The course covers civil and architectural drawing standards, such as site plans, topographic drawings, contour mapping, building drawings, sections, multi-floor building layouts, and structural drawings and detailing, including slabs, beams, columns, foundations, staircases, and bar bending in reinforced concrete sections. In addition, the course covers utility drawings, earthwork representation, and quantity estimation. Students are introduced to 3D visualization and BIM workflows, model coordination, and material takeoffs. The course culminates in a team-based integrated civil engineering drawing project.
