The purpose of this course is to develop students’ academic reading, listening, and speaking skills. In addition, the course aims to expand students’ vocabulary, improve their pronunciation, and enhance their critical thinking skills. Students entering this course are expected to be able to read multi-paragraph academic texts on a variety of topics. The course emphasises developing and applying effective reading and listening strategies, including identifying main ideas, understanding supporting details, responding to a range of reading and listening comprehension questions, and critically evaluating academic texts.
